Beach and Roads Community Cleanup

Date: Sunday March 23rd

Time: 10.00 to around midday

Last year’s cleanup was a great success, with about 100 people volunteering. The new and old streets of Clarks Beach, both beaches—Clarks and Waiau—and the flourishing nature reserve bordering Mutetai Street (the eastern edge of the new subdivision), yielded two full skips of rubbish.

This year we’d like to extend to the Waiau Pa roads as well. If you walk along any of our country roads you’ll see the need. There’s a lot of ugly litter in the ditches and long grass.

Watch FB Grapevine for where you can pick up bags, where the skips will be located, and any other details. We’ll provide bags to put the rubbish in.

BBQ for all helpers at the conclusion.

Are you able to help?

Wear gloves, closed-in shoes, or gumboots if you’re on the beaches.
If you’re likely to be working along the roads, especially the country roads, also wear a high-visibility vest.
Do you have a quad bike and trailer, or a car and trailer to pick up full bags and ferry them to the skips?
Are you on a rural road, and able to coordinate with some of your neighbours?

If everyone does a little bit, it makes an immense and immediate difference.

Join our December Christmas Lights Challenge.

To create a bright and festive vibe for the whole community, we’re running a Christmas Lights competition for Waiau Pa and Clarks Beach streets from 1 December to 24 December.

Hammer Hardware have strings of outside lights available and prizes will be awarded.
